Neverland Nursery
One thing that Troy and I instantly connected on when we met was our love for Disney. You'll catch us most Halloweens dressed as some iconic Disney duo, and most of the latest movies we've watched have been old animated classics (thanks to Disney Plus). So when it was time to choose a theme for Jake's nursery, it wasn't difficult at all. Peter Pan is Troy's favorite classic, and it fits perfectly for a little boy. So here's the breakdown of the work behind our Neverland Nursery:
The feature wall was definitely the most difficult part. Those clouds are 5 giant panels of vinyl sticker material. Think of it as a huge Cricut project. We ordered it from DsunSHOP on Etsy (link below). It is fantastic quality, but definitely took two people to put it up. The key was making sure we aligned the stars (pun intended, but for real though), and smoothed out the air bubbles as we moved down along the panel.
The Big Ben was a separate piece, ordered from danadecals on Etsy (link below). It came with only the black silhouette material. We bought our own white and yellow vinyl to put behind it. That process was a little tricky too, but it came out alright in the end with a little patience.
The "second star" quote could easily be printed from your own Cricut, if you have the new one that can cut something that long. You could also print it in shorter segments and try your best to keep it straight when applying it to the wall. We saved ourselves the hassle and just bought it from VinylQuoteMe on Etsy (link below).
The last part was the characters' silhouettes. For someone with his or her own Cricut, this is a very easy project. We just searched for the shapes we liked and cut them to the size we thought looked best with our Cricut Explore Air 2. If you don't have a Cricut, Etsy should do the trick!
The nursery furniture was purchased from BuyBuy Baby (crib, dresser, changing topper, and nightstand). The set we chose is Sorelle Providence in Heritage Fog. We're lucky enough to have an actual brick and mortar store here in San Antonio, and this set was a floor display. I loved it right away because #1 we're big fans of gray tones, and #2 I wanted something gender neutral for any Charlesworth babies that may come in the future!
The wooden letters for Jake's name were particularly difficult for me to decide on. There were lots of cute options on Etsy, but everything was so expensive! I refused to pay $300 for some wooden letters! I was also very picky about the font choices and a lot of shops just didn't have the styles I was looking for. I finally found these ones from Adoren Studio on Etsy. They were wonderful to work with and will email you a proof of your customized order before making it!
The shelf décor came from all over the place- literally. (England, The Netherlands, Peru, etc.) I can't take full credit for this design though, because I'd seen super cute Neverland shelves on Pinterest and ran with the idea. I shopped everywhere for items that reminded me of the original story. The pirate ship and treasure chest both came from Hobby Lobby, along with the lantern that Tink is in. The BEAUTIFUL copy of Peter Pan was a Barnes and Noble purchase. The teddy bear and crocodile are both Gund. Troy sewed that hat himself for a Halloween costume a few years back. He prides himself on being told in home economics that he'd make a great housewife someday! The Big Ben, teepee, pan flute and alarm clock were all Etsy purchases.
My absolute favorite piece is the Goebel Neverland Island landscape miniature. We found this baby at a booth at the Round Top Antiques Show. (One of my favorite events of all time!) This collection is from 1993 and is no longer in production. Unfortunately, they didn't have the little figurines that go with it, but the landscape by itself is incredible!
Something else I lucked into when I married Troy, is that he LOVES home projects and building things. All of the shelving in Jake's closet was designed and built by Troy. We wanted to make the most of the space, given that the closet isn't huge, and the doorway makes the space on both ends difficult to get to. The top shelves are still being used for diaper storage, and the bins on the left are all labeled for various items. Since taking these photos, I've added six more bins to the shelves at the bottom and they are a lifesaver when it comes to organization. All the bins were purchased from Target! The right side of the closet (not visible in this picture) was just the right size for his laundry hamper.
I'm honestly not sure where I found the shoe holder idea. It might have been a Pinterest find, or I may have come up with it myself. It's perfect for burp cloths, baby shoes and socks, pacifiers, etc. (All the little things that get lost elsewhere.) It was a very quick and easy purchase from Amazon.
The bookshelves were also a custom build from Troy. I am a psycho about books. (English teacher problems. Am I right?) In addition to the regular bookshelf next to his crib, I wanted these "feature shelves" for a little extra decoration. I change out the books on them with every season/holiday!
The Neverland Map was a must-have in my design. I searched for days online to find one that I loved. Who knew there were so many different maps of Neverland Island?! This one was a digital download from- you guessed it- Etsy! We printed the image at Office Depot and picked up a frame from Michaels.
The Lost Boys weapons on the wall came from the Sherwood Forest Faire here in Texas. Troy had a blast wearing them all day when we bought them!
The glider was the most important piece of nursery furniture for me. I knew I'd be spending many hours sitting in that thing and I wanted one that was VERY comfortable. We looked everywhere and couldn't find what we wanted. Seriously, I tried BuyBuy Baby, several furniture stores, Target, Ikea- you name it, I tried it! Finally, we found this little store here in the Stone Oak area called Crib n Kids. They had SO MANY to choose from, and I found exactly what I needed here. The brand we ended up with is Dutailier. It's incredibly comfortable, and the best part is that the company will reupholster it if we ever need or want to change out the fabric color (for a price of course).
